The collection consists of twenty letters to Rajni Patel and two flyers advertising speakers sponsored by the India League. The flyers advertise lectures in London, including Empire or democracy? with speakers Stafford Cripps and Krishna Menon, and Unite with the Indian people, with Menon among numerous speakers. Also, letters from Menon to Patel, chiefly 1937-1939, mostly touching on Indian political themes, with personal topics included.

Rajni M. Patel was educated in England as a lawyer. He was a friend of Jawaharlal Nehru and his daughter, Indira, and was involved in the Indian self-government movement. V.K. Krishna Menon was an Indian politician. Living in London, he became active in the Indian self-government movement. He served as High Commissioner for India in Great Britain, Indian delegate to the United Nations, and Indian Minister of Defense. Despite certain errors in judgment, he was trusted by Nehru, and did much to establish fledgling India's domestic, foreign, and defense policies. From the description of V.K.
